Basketball is one of the most attractive sports and therefore one of the most popular sports where we can improve all four dimensions of physical literacy (physical, psychological, cognitive and social). It is widely enjoyed among girls and women of all ages.

Women basketball clubs all around Europe are trying to raise the number of girls playing basketball, as well as reduce drop out in sport among adolescent girls.

Now more than ever EU needs quality physical activity programmes, focusing on enhancing individuals to participate in physical activities, led by skilled and qualified trainers. The project will support sport clubs and coaches, providing capacity building, training materials and skills development, focusing on equal opportunities. Cross-border collaboration and cooperation with a psychologist will be established to tackle the increased drop out from sport during the last years, and to enhance equal opportunities.

ABOUT

The main project activities are development of innovative training methodology for prevention of drop out of female adolescents from sports, skills development and networking activities; knowledge exchange and best practise collection; dissemination of project outcomes.

Basketball is a great networking tool as well, therefore the project will enhance better opportunities for social inclusion and networking by empowering adolescent girls (aged 13 – 27) with new skills, resulting in better social connectedness in professional career and private life.

The main project idea is based on positive results in tackling drop out of adolescent girls by successful implementation of psychological workshops for female volleyball players, delivered by team member of the partner VOLLEY.

The main target groups are young women, the local sport clubs; trainers, coaches and volunteers. On long-term basis, we intend to consolidate and to extend the network, to standardize the activities among the clubs and to further develop cross-border partnerships.

Key words: sport, gender equality, equal opportunities, drop out from sport, adolescent female athletes, basketball, capacity building, skills development, cross-border collaboration, cross-sector cooperation.
